Each General Meeting the Education Team gives a short presentation on an individual in the Nyange community. If you missed the meeting this week we've provided a summary below:
Vedaste, age 51, has four kids and is the president of the Tile Co-op. During our time with him he made a point of mentioning that he is quite proud of his name. He has a scar on his stomach, something we originally thought was due to inferior water quality, which was the result of extreme malnutrition. At one point Vedaste was so underfed that his intestines began eating at themselves and he was forced to undergo surgery, an expensive and somewhat unhygienic procedure in rural Rwanda. And he is not unique in his mal/undernutrion--pretty much the entire village is underfed. Yet seeing the specific example of Vedaste helps drive home both the importance and the urgency of our projects on Rwanda.
