EWB at SCU worked on a four year water distribution project which aimed to provide clean drinking water to the community of El Pital, Honduras. We made three visits to El Pital, with help from the Honduran non-profit Un Mundo. Over that time we assessed the needs of the community and began to design a new rerouted water system. We also worked on improving the hygiene education standards in El Pital.
EWB-SCU the Honduras water distribution project was stalled in 2012 due to travel restrictions by the US Department of State. In Spring 2015, we began working with our east coast friends at Duke Engineers for International Development (DEID) who have taken over the project to make sure El Pital will still get access to clean drinking water. DEID traveled to Honduras this summer with our former President, Elliot Martin, to work on the water-pipeline and gray-water systems. We are so happy to say that the project is moving forward again!
